Kennel Cough Update and Information:

It is that time of the year again when Kennel Cough is more prevalent. The change of season can be cause for dormant cells to activate. Kennel Cough (Bordetella) can be contracted in a variety of settings including Pet stores, Veterinary Clinics and Doggy Daycares. Unfortunately, the Bordetella vaccine only protects against some of the hundreds of potential viruses and does not always protect against all of the strains (Similar to the human flu vaccine). Although we do require all dogs to have the vaccine every 6 months. Not all dogs will be protected against all strains. Please be sure your vaccine is up to date prior to attending daycare.

Canine Fitness and Fun Center has had 4 known dogs with cases of Kennel Cough. Whether or not the virus was contracted at our facility can not be known, however what we would like you to know is that we have taken every precaution necessary. We strive to provide a clean, safe and healthy facility for your pets, and assure you that we are doing all that is possible to make sure we cover all of our bases.

If your dog begins to show signs of a coughing (or gagging as to vomit), sneezing, low appetite, or runny nose, please avoid daycare and public places with your pet as it is highly contagious. Like a common cold, it must run its course and can typically last 7-10 days. If symptoms do not subside in 10-14 days or your dog has a depressed immune system please see your veterinarian as soon as possible. Dogs may return to daycare 3 days after the cough has ended completely.

We thank you for your business, understanding and consideration and know that we will always keep you informed about such important issues. Please read the attached brochure about Canine Cough (Kennel Cough) to answer additional questions or feel free to call with any questions you may have.
